Today’s Google homepage honors the man credited for helping yoga take root in the West – B.K.S. Iyengar.
Known as the Father of Modern Yoga, B.K.S., short for Bellur Krishnamachar Sundararaja, would have been 97-years old today. Iyengar wrote a number of yoga philosophy books, and his style of yoga – centered on control and discipline – is practiced around the world.
Designed by Googler Kevin Laughlin, there are three animated versions of the Iyengar Google logo – each with Iyengar in one of his master poses (or “asanas”). The logo is displayed on nearly all of Google’s international homepages and leads to a search for BKS Iyengar.

Born on this date in 1918, Iyengar died last year at the age of 95 from heart failure.
