16-months after adding Okay Google to Chrome – the desktop version, a way to trigger Google to listen your voice searches, Google had removed the option from Chrome version 46.
You can no longer enable Google Chrome on your desktop to initiate a voice search by saying the two words, “okay Google.” Now you need to click on the microphone icon in the search box to initiate the command. Holding a taco and want to do a search? Well, you are out of luck! You can always do the search on your smartphone instead, if you don’t want to drop the taco.
Again, the feature only impacts the Chrome browser on Windows, Mac or Linux desktops. It does not impact Chrome for mobile or Chromebooks.
Google supposedly removed the feature due to lack of use.
